How long verification actually takes: AMCAS, AACOMAS, and TMDSAS

Dear Applicant,

You hit submit. Nothing happened. No email, no status change worth celebrating, and no sign that any school has looked at anything.

That is not a bug. Every application service puts your file in a queue before it becomes something a school can read, and each service publishes how long that queue runs. Almost nobody reads those numbers before they need them, which is why August and September feel like being ignored.

Here is what each service actually says, in its own words.

The AAMC states plainly: "During peak season, AMCAS verification may take six to eight weeks."

The part that costs people the most time is not the duration. It is when the clock starts. Your application does not enter the queue when you submit. It enters when the AAMC has everything: "Once you have submitted your application and the AMCAS program has received all your required transcripts, your application will be listed as Ready for Review. At this stage, your application is in the verification queue."

Read that again with a registrar in mind. If one transcript is late, your six to eight weeks has not started. You are not in line yet. You are waiting to get in line.

The DO side runs faster and says so: "Verifications occur in chronological order and can take up to 10 business days to complete."

Chronological order is the whole sentence. There is no priority lane and no way to buy one. Whoever completed first gets verified first.

AACOMAS also lets you submit before your documents land: "You can submit your application before your transcripts and evaluations are received." Useful, but pair it with the other number they publish, which is that "it takes five business days from the date of receipt to post transcripts and official test scores to your application." Five business days of posting plus ten business days of verification is three calendar weeks from a transcript arriving, not ten days from your submit button.

Texas publishes a shorter window: "It normally takes 2-4 weeks for applications to be processed."

TMDSAS is also the most forgiving about missing pieces. Their guidance is that "You can submit your application before TMDSAS has received your letters of evaluation and test scores. Your letters and scores will be added to your application as they are received and they will not cause a delay to your application processing time."

That last clause is unusual and worth knowing. On the Texas application, a late letter does not hold your processing hostage the way a late transcript holds AMCAS.

Casper scores do not arrive with your application. Acuity Insights states that "Casper results are sent directly to the programs on an applicant's distribution list approximately two to three weeks after their test."

Two things follow. First, each program sets a distribution deadline, "the final date they will accept Casper scores." Second, if you are applying broadly, Acuity's own instruction is to "select a date before the earliest program distribution deadline." One early sitting can cover schools you add later, as long as you stay inside their deadlines and the test type matches.

Three things, and none of them are hustle.

Order transcripts before you need them. On AMCAS, the transcript is the gate. Everything downstream of it is a published number you cannot negotiate, and the only variable you control is when the last document lands.

Count in calendar weeks, not business days. Ten business days is two weeks. Five plus ten business days is three. Six to eight weeks from a mid-August transcript lands you in late September at the earliest. Write the real date on a calendar and stop refreshing the portal.

Stop reading silence as rejection. For most of these queues, no news means your file is exactly where the published timeline says it should be. The people who look calm in October are not luckier. They just read the processing page in June.
