Dear Applicant,

The most expensive misunderstanding in a PA application is a good one to have early: hitting submit does not put your application in front of programs, and neither does having every document in. There is a processing step between you and your programs, it is called verification, and it has a published clock.

CASPA says it plainly: "Submitting does not mean your application is being reviewed by your programs."

Here is the whole ladder.

The five statuses, in CASPA's own words

  1. In Progress. "Your application has not yet been submitted or you haven't paid the application fee."

  2. Received. "Your application has been submitted, but you are missing required documents."

  3. Completed. "All required materials were received and your application is in line for verification and is considered complete."

  4. Undelivered. "This status indicates that an error was found and your application was returned to you for corrections."

  5. Verified. "Your application was processed and, if applicable, your GPA was calculated and made available to your programs."

Read 3 and 5 next to each other. Completed means you are in line. Verified means you arrived. CASPA's own wording for the distance between them is that once an application reaches Completed status, "it can take up to 10 business days to move to the Verified status."

Ten business days is two calendar weeks. Not ten days.

What "complete" actually requires

Completed is not a judgment call, it is a checklist, and every item on it depends on somebody who is not you. From CASPA's submission guidance, an application is complete when:

  1. All official transcripts have been received and posted to your application.

  2. At least 2 of your evaluations have been completed and submitted to CASPA.

  3. Professional Transcript Entry work is approved, if you used it.

  4. Your application fee payment was submitted and marked as received.

  5. You submitted your application and received the email confirming it was submitted successfully.

Items 1 and 2 are the ones that quietly run late, because a registrar and two evaluators are doing them on their own schedule, not yours. Your submit button does not start the clock. Their last delivery does.

Undelivered is the status to actually fear

Notice what Undelivered means: an error was found and your application was sent back to you. The verification clock does not keep running while it sits with you. Whatever days you spend noticing the email, fixing the problem, and resubmitting are days added on top of the ten.

This is why the advice is not "submit early," it is "submit early enough to survive one round trip." One coursework typo caught on day three of verification is a non-event if you have three weeks of margin, and a lost cycle if you have four days.

How to count backwards

Take your earliest program deadline. Then subtract, in this order:

  • Up to 10 business days for Completed to become Verified.

  • However long your slowest transcript and your slowest evaluator will actually take, which you should be asking about now, not estimating.

  • A buffer for one Undelivered round trip.

That is your real submission date, and it is usually several weeks earlier than the date printed on the program's page.

One thing to check yourself rather than assume: programs set their own deadlines, and CASPA programs do not all define the deadline the same way. Look at your specific program's deadline in your CASPA program list and confirm what has to be true by that date. Do not inherit a friend's assumption about it, and do not inherit ours.

The dates that bound the whole 2026-2027 cycle

Program deadlines vary and most of them are much earlier, but CASPA publishes the hard outer edges of the cycle:

  • The cycle opened April 30, 2026.

  • Final submission date, which is also the last day to create an account, request evaluations, or order Professional Transcript Entry: April 1, 2027 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

  • Transcript and test score matching: April 5, 2027 at 5 p.m. ET.

  • Evaluator submission: April 5, 2027 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

  • Professional Transcript Entry approval: April 7, 2027 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

  • Resubmission of an Undelivered application: April 8, 2027 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

  • Final verification, and the cycle closes: April 9, 2027 at 5 p.m. ET.

That last cluster is worth a second look. CASPA sets separate, later deadlines for the parts other people control, which tells you how often those parts are the thing running late.

The move

Today, three messages, none of them long:

  1. Your registrar, confirming every transcript was sent and asking when it was sent.

  2. Both evaluators, confirming they submitted, not that they intend to.

  3. Yourself, in the calendar: your earliest program deadline minus ten business days minus your buffer. That date is the one that matters.
